Calcining
of Green Petroleum Coke(GPC) is used as a source
of high purity carbon. Depending on certain physical
and chemical properties, GPC can be upgraded by
calcination. The starting material, GPC is a high
molecular weight polymetric hydrocarbon which thermally
decomposes on calcining to form carbon, light hydrocarbon
gases and hydrogen. Calcining is the heat treating
process of removing moisture and volatile matter
in a reduction atmosphere thereby changing the crystal
structure and increasing the bulk density and electrical
conductivity of the coke. |
|
| After calcination, the Calcined Petroleum
Coke (CPC) is used as the main carbon source for anodes
in aluminum smelting. Other uses of CPC are in the production
of titaniumdioxide and steel using electric arc furnace
manufacturing. |
