The RCL
facility is located on a 42.5-acre site, in the
Visakhapatnam Port Area. The site is approximately
three kilometers from the deep water dock where
GPC is discharged and export shipments of CPC are
loaded. |

| GPC is transported from the ship to the
site by trucks and automatically inventoried on a 80,000
ton storage pad using a modern belt conveyor system and
high capacity stacker/reclaimer. Segregated inventorying
of various GPC qualities is maintained. From the storage
area, GPC is retrieved by the reclaimer and fed into the
crushing and screening station. |
| |
| The crushed material is sent to one of
four day bins, to allow a high degree of flexibility for
blending different kiln feed stock. From the bins, the
coke is fed into the rotary kiln on a controlled weight
basis in the required blend. Such custom GPC blending
enables the company to achieve a wide variety of product
qualities (sulfur varying from 0.5% to 3.5%) as specified
by aluminum smelter customers. |

The rotary
coke calciner, which is equipped with variable drive
to meet the operational requirements, is a world-class
model. Its production capacity is over 300,000 tons
of CPC per year. To enhance performance, the calciner
tube is equipped with rotating kiln-mounted tertiary
air blowers and refractory lifters. These systems
are known to improve production rates and CPC vibrated
bulk density. An advanced distributed control system
runs the entire operation under algorithms specifically
designed for RCL. |

| The feed stock is heated
to a temperature of up to 1300°C in the kiln,
which drives off the volatiles and moisture in the
GPC. After calcination, the CPC goes into a cooler
where water is sprayed to cool the material. The
CPC from the rotary cooler is transferred to one
of six CPC storage silos. Different qualities of
CPC are segregated in each CPC silo. The storage
silo outlets are specially designed to enable custom
blending of various grades of CPC from the silos,
as may be desired. |

shipments are moved from the silos to a truck loading
station. Trucks carrying export shipments are then moved
directly to the assigned Visakhapatnam Port dock. Local
Indian shipments are either directly sent by truck or
bagged prior to shipment. |
